Love this camera. It takes great video. The optical Image stabilizer is a handy feature for shaky hands. Plus it records HD video in stereo sound. Not like the old video cameras with crappy sound recording. The pictures it takes are great quality. Easy to use. Highly recommend! Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom LCD

Canon PowerShot SX130IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom with 3.0-Inch LCD
Let me start by saying I'm a fan of Canon. Three out of four of my current digital cameras, both my DSLR is Canon. My unit has a speck of dust inside the lens, creating a point where the images / video for a while
It has been two years since I bought a camera and a little surprised to see how the feature sets they came from, especially in low-end compact. Now put the camera through the steps in many different situations, and overall I am very happy with everything so far.
My criteria for buying this camera was very simple. I wanted a compact optical zoom and a decent interval, head of AA battery, excellent color fidelity, a reasonable return on low light and a unit that provides full manual control. I am an amateur photographer / semi-pro and I hope many of my cameras. After reviewing the options out there, this was a clear winner.
First, I will talk about image quality and zoom. I was very impressed with the color fidelity and overall quality of the image. Images are sharp and their ability to deliver vivid colors and great dynamic range in images is fantastic. With the lack of RAW support unit was very important to me. At the lower end of the catch, the effect is a bit wider ... but I really appreciate the width of this camera can go. At the other end of the zoom, the optical quality is still great and I do not detect weaknesses in the optical range. I've never been impressed with the digital zoom, and almost always avoid ... but as is typical with digital zoom, you will have artifacts at the farthest end of the spectrum. By agreement, the macro mode is also very functional, allowing a very short focus range from less than 1 / 2 "- and two" focusing on the normal mode is also quite impressive.
The performance is opening up to my expectations of a lens of this quality, if not slightly better than expected. The range is from f/3.4 to f/8.0 in Aperture Priority mode, and usually more in the end, but as far as I know, this camera produces above f/22 and quality of landscapes . We will not have nice bokeh at the lower end (f/3.4), but this is typical of compact cameras with lenses cheap. With that said, however, I was surprised to see any bokeh all ... and you can get some.
Low-light performance is important to me because it is one of my main interests in photography. Up to ISO800, there is little noise in the captured images, and discovered that my noise filters will clean up what little there is very good. ISO1600 noise begins to introduce a characteristic strong, but I expected more. ISO3200 is not supported, but personally, I feel this is a waste of a camera in this price range because there is no way we're going to do well in such extremes. Image stabilization works well, especially when you're on the verge of needing a tripod. The camera has a focus assist light automatic, which is a welcome addition to a camera in this price range. Low-light performance was very good video, although it has an impact on the noise performance of the department ... but was still impressed that it works well as it does to produce results some very watchable video light.
The full set of features of a relatively cheap deal for me is simply amazing. All basic functions are there for a person who enjoys a certain creative control, and full TV, Av and Manual. The automatic modes are ideal for those times when you do not want the effort and the P mode (full auto, except for the ISO control) is an absolute necessity for me. The time of life is fast and a state-off, which can capture an image in less than 3 seconds. I tried some new, fancy features and I have to say, they are quite impressive. Smile detection puzzled me because it really worked! Portrait photography when new people enter the scene is also very surprising to me. Blink Detection? Never would have thought, but actually worked for me in a couple of cases. The HD video is a great addition to my line of the camera and started playing with it extensively. I noticed a small discrepancy between the stability of the image on the LCD screen and the actual result produced on video, but again, if I wanted super-stable video using a tripod. There is a limit of 10 minutes to capture video, which could be a deal breaker for some, but for my purposes, fine. Get great audio, it was surprising to me - although not going to get studio-quality movies out of it.
Physically speaking, the camera is very comfortable to hold and all buttons are conveniently located. Anyone who has used a Canon camera feels very comfortable with it ... and even if you're not, I would not anticipate too much difficulty. I have had no significant difficulty with the placement of a button, but accidentally turn the camera when I was trying to capture an image in a race condition. Not exactly a sub-compact, but for a zoom compact size is perfect and beyond my expectations. (It is a large pocket with ease, but not in the minor leagues, like most of the back pockets.) Retraction of the lens is very nice and the lens protrudes only 3 / 4 "of the body when fully retracted.
Battery Performance met my expectations, mostly. Using rechargeable batteries is a must for any digital camera - it's no secret that all digital cameras suck a lot of juice. (This is because most cameras use proprietary NiMH batteries!) In my case, I'm pretty heavy investment in AA NiMH batteries, so it was very important for this purchase to support them. I do not understand the evaluation of performance, but never trust the values and of course can squeak 200 images + a set of 2300mAh batteries without using the flash. The use of video that suck the juice, but have been surprisingly impressed with his performance than I expected much less. It really does not consider the use of standard alkaline batteries in a digital camera for everyone, but a difficult situation and expected performance of alkaline batteries is good, not get it. I have not found the camera a couple of my 2700mAh battery packs, and not even call ... and while it bothered me, was not a deal breaker because it works with 90% of my battery. A quality battery charger / tester goes a long way since it does not take place if the batteries are not up to snuff and not combined properly in accordance with the actual capacity.
In fact only a couple of complaints. Somehow my unit has a very large spec of dust inside the lens, and for some time, all my images / video was a blur in them - especially in images with strong light / midrange background. I am a little concern with the seal and its ability to prevent dust on the lens. Finally, this speck of dust was gone and my pictures are back to normal - but it's frustrating when you can not do anything about something. In addition, the video codec high definition used in this camera (Quicktime MOV H.264/Apple) is very frustrating to work on a computer. Not only is well supported and still need long time to open on my computer, even within Apple's Quicktime. (My machine is a 3.2 GHz quad-core proc, 4GB of RAM ... fast, for all purposes -. You may have a problem with video codecs on my computer and I'm willing to admit this possibility) With that said but I think it is better to convert to a different format for editing ... a step that would rather avoid. These two issues prevented me from giving the product a total of five stars.
In general, however, I am impressed with this camera and fits perfectly for me. I hope you have found this review helpful!
